Amparo del Carmen Garrido Arozamena (October 17, 1929 - January 9, 2025) was a renowned Mexican film, radio, theater, television and dubbing actress.
She was recognized for being the voice of characters such as Snow White in the 1964 dub of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pixie in Pixie and Dixie and Mr. Jinks and Bambi's Mother in the 1969 dub of Bambi, among many other characters.
Biography[]
Mrs. Garrido came from a well-known family of actors. Daughter of Don Juan S. Garrido (author of songs such as "Noche de luna en Eduardo Arozamena]] and Amparo Arozamena. His sister is the prominent writer and playwright Marissa Garrido, married to the late voice actor Agustín Sauret and parents of the prominent voice actor Mario Sauret. She was married to the dubbing and radio soap opera actor Ismael Larumbe, whom she was widowed in 1975. Together they had four children: Juan José and the also actors Ismael, Clemencia and Armando.
Doña Amparo lived during her early years in the popular Barrio del Carmen in the Historic Center of Mexico City. He began his artistic career when he was barely 7 years old working in his grandfather's theater company, in the play "Los músicos de Majalambri". From there he began to forge a successful artistic career. At the age of 12, she received her first opportunity as a radio soap opera actress in Mysteries from beyond the grave, a suspense and horror radio soap opera.
He later joined XEQ radio station and later XEX, where he met future celebrities such as Jacobo Zabludovsky, Cuco Sánchez, Roberto Cantoral and Ramón Obon, who gave him the role in the radio soap opera Misterios de Ultratumba. Later, she made multiple radio soap operas in stellar roles of well-known writers of the time, such as Caridad Bravo Adams, Francisco de Valera and Francisco Márquez, among others, which earned her several diplomas, awards and 5 trophies as Best Radio Actress in Mexico. He starred in the radio soap operas "Águilas frente al sol", "I don't believe in men", "Cursed Paradise", "Chucho el Roto", "Biography of an unknown woman", "Sacrifice", "The supplicant" among many others.
In theater he stood out in various plays sharing the stage with legends such as Pedro Infante, Agustín Lara and Jorge Mistral. He participated in "Yo, Colón" the inaugural play of the Teatro de los Insurgentes together with Mario Moreno "Cantinflas".
She has also worked as a voice actress since the 1950s. Her most iconic character has been Snow White in the original Mexican dubbing of the Disney classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, he also participated for the same company in classics such as Dumbo, Bambi and Lady and the Tramp. He worked in studios such as CINSA, Rivatón de América, SISSA - Oruga, CLADSA and R. K. Tompkins y Asociados. In the 2000s he did dubbing sporadically until his retirement in 2011, but nevertheless he returned to dubbing in 2020 at the hands of his son Ismael.
Doña Amparo also has extensive union experience in the National Association of Actors (ANDA), working on the Women's Commission, Rosa Mexicano, as Secretary of Social Welfare and as Secretary of Statistics and Organization.
He died on January 9, 2025 at the age of 95.
