Arturo Mercado Chacón (born December 7, 1940) is a renowned Mexican dubbing actor with more than 50 years of experience in the artistic field. Known for his numerous vocal registers and the ability to cover different types of characters. He is the father of also voice actors Arturo Mercado Jr. and Carmen Mercado. He was married to the dubbing actress Magdalena Leonel.
Biography
Arturo is originally from Acámbaro, State of Guanajuato. He arrived in Mexico City in 1952. He studied acting at the Andrés Soler Institute, belonging to the National Association of Actors (ANDA). Along with dubbing, he has actively dedicated himself to commercial voiceover. Currently, Arturo is still fully active in these activities.
Already graduated in 1961, he began to work in theater, television, and radio; venturing into the specialty of dubbing in 1963, where he has participated in numerous animated films such as Bambi in which he played Flor, Beauty and the Beast in which he played the Beast, Charlotte's Web in which he played Wilbur Pig, Puss in Boots Goes West, All the Dogs Go to heaven, playing Charlie Barkin, Tom and Jerry: The Movie playing Tom, The Lion King playing Simba as a teenager and adult, Thumbelina playing Jacquimo and The Flintstones playing Flintstones.
In television series he participated in Man from Atlantis dubbing Patrick Duffy, the same actor from the series Dallas, Spenser, investigator dubbing the actor Robert Urich, among the best known.
He has also played many classic animated characters such as Meteor, Speedy González, Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, Silvestre, Jiminy Cricket, Rico McPato, Dale from Chip and Dale to the Rescue, Winnie Pooh, Darkwing Duck and Gorilla Joe from The Jungle Book. In the series The Smurfs he played Clumsy, Joker, Hefty, Painter, Poet, William, Grandpa Smurf and Azrael the cat, and in The Little Muppets he played Kinky the Frog and Rufous dog.
He is also notable for his active participation in dubbing Hanna-Barbera series and films, mainly in the Scooby-Doo franchise, where he is the official voice of Shaggy Rogers and of the Scrappy-Doo puppy. Additionally, he is the official voice of Flintstone in all The Flintstones spin-offs from the 70s to the present. Additionally, he has voiced Master Yoda in the Star Wars saga, Jam from the Toy Story franchise. , Tantor from Tarzan and Gaetan Molière in Atlantis: The Lost Empire. He is the recurring voice of George Clooney, Jackie Chan, Kurt Russell, Bill Murray, Robert Redford, Dick Van Dyke, Jeff Bridges, Martin Sheen, Mark Rylance and Patrick Duffy.
