Beatriz Ofelia Aguirre Valdez, better known as Beatriz Aguirre, (Arteaga, Coahuila, Mexico, March 21, 1925 - September 29, 2019) was a prominent Mexican theater actress, film, television and radio soap operas that also ventured into the world of voice acting.
She had a rather characteristic voice, which emanated airs of tenderness and beauty, with which she played a large number of characters, especially characters for the company Disney, where she played mostly older women, both in his native Mexico, like at home in Los Angeles.
Biography
She began studying to be a dentist, but left her studies to pursue her true calling. She began her career as an actress in the cinema when she was barely 19 years old, her first film being La monja alférez in 1944 with María Félix. In 1947 he began to study acting at the National Institute of Fine Arts. She was also a qualified declamation teacher. Her theater debut was in the 1948 season of Teatro Universal with Antígona, a play adapted and directed by Xavier Villaurrutia, whose student she was. He would come to work with other great figures such as Pedro Infante, Jorge Negrete, Pedro Armendáriz and Arturo de Córdova.
He ventured into dubbing working for CINSA, he also worked for SISSA and Grabaciones y Doblajes S.A. where he played memorable characters in Disney movies, such as Perdita in 101 Dalmatians, Widow Tweed in The Fox and the Hound and Lady Ladybug in Jim and the Giant Peach. She is also known for being the voice of Jessica Fletcher in the series Crime Reporter and Empress Marie Romanov in the Fox movie Anastasia, both roles originally played by Angela Lansbury, whom Beatriz also voiced when she appeared in the film Fantasia 2000 playing herself.
Other outstanding characters of Beatriz are the disturbed Margaret White in the 1st version of the classic Carrie, María Magdalena in Jesús de Nazareth, Hera in Hercules and Baylene in Dinosaur, the last two, Disney movies.
In addition to his prolific career in film, theater and dubbing, he participated in various soap operas, with prominent roles in Amar fue su pecado, Teresa, Viviana, Bianca Vidal, Such as we are, Sweet challenge, The eagle's flight, Alondra, Hurricane, Madness of love, Conceived without sin , Hearts on the edge and Cuidado con el ángel, among many others.
In 1993, she was awarded the Ariel Award for Best Actress for her role as Greta in the film Los años de Greta, where she alternated with great performers such as Helena Rojo, Pedro Armendáriz Jr., Luis Aguilar, Meche Barba, Esther Fernández, Evangelina Sosa and Margarita Isabel, among others. She received the Diosa de Plata, Bravo and Arlequín awards in the 2010s for her vast career as an actress, in addition to accumulating another dozen awards for her theater performances.
Thanks to the dubbing she met Guillermo Romano (real name Carlos Stevenson), with whom she was married until his death. Both were parents to fellow actors, Carlos and Fabiola Stevenson.
The entire family alternated their respective jobs between Mexico and Los Angeles, although Doña Beatriz was the one who traveled to Mexico the most often, so she worked constantly in Mexican dubbing as well as alternating this work with her participation in television, film and theater mexicans.
In 2015, Doña Beatriz retired from active life as an actress due to her advanced age and went to settle permanently in Los Angeles with her husband, where they lived in the last years of her life. After his retirement, he only made exceptional public appearances, due to the fact that he used a wheelchair.
Doña Beatriz passed away on September 29, 2019, one year and 2 months after her husband Don Guillermo left, leaving in his legacy a long career of 75 years in acting.
