Kirk Douglas was an American actor born December 9, 1916.
A veteran actor and producer, he was one of the last living legends of classic Hollywood. He played a diverse number of roles: from a boxer in the film Champion, through westerns, film noir and police dramas (where his liberal sense of acting is expressed), among others.
Many will remember him for his role as Spartacus in the film of the same name by Stanley Kubrick, who also previously directed him in the famous and controversial Paths of Glory, in which he played French Colonel Dax, who helps a group of soldiers who are unjustly accused of cowardice in the face of the enemy.
In 1997, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awarded him the honorary Oscar for his lifetime achievement.
He died on February 5, 2020, at the age of 103.
