José Maynardo Zavala Bustamante (January 21, 1939 - August 11, 2008), better known as Maynardo Zavala was a talented theater, film, and radio actor and dubbing director. He was widely known for his distinctive deep voice.
Among the legendary characters he played are Mr. Vitalis in the famous anime Remi, King Harold from the Shrek movies, Henry J. Waternoose from Monsters, Inc. , Jim Malone in The Untouchables, "The Bad" in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Heathcliff "Cliff" Huxtable in The Cosby Show, Treebeard in two films from the legendary film saga The Lord of the Rings and Alastor “Mad-Eye" Moody in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, among many other characters.
Maynardo is the father of fellow actor and dubbing director Ulises Maynardo Zavala (with whom he also shares a very similar voice timbre), father-in-law of fellow actress Sarah Souza and grandfather of Iván Zavala.

Early Years[]
José Maynardo Zavala Bustamante was born on January 21, 1939 in San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
He studied painting, stage design and dramatic art. While working as a set designer, he was presented with the opportunity to act in a play replacing an actor who had not shown up. From there he began a brilliant career in theater and radio, later reaching dubbing.
Career in dubbing[]
Since then, Zavala became one of the pioneers in dubbing in Mexico, forging an extensive career, which goes back to the 60s, working on film classics, such as Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock, El bueno, the bad and the ugly, Dracula's daughter and How beautiful it is to live!.
Going through cult films and series from the 80s and 90s such as The Silence of the Lambs, Daniel the Naughty, and The Bill Cosby Show.
Until reaching the last works of his career, in movies like Monsters, Inc., Shrek 2, Lilo & Stitch, and series like KND: The boys from the neighborhood and Chowder, among other characters.
Death[]
Unfortunately he passed away on August 11, 2008, due to pulmonary emphysema. After his death, his son Ulises replaced him in his two roles in the series Chowder, the likeable Gazpacho and Narrator Diente, whom he dubbed in one episode.
