Roy Scheider was an American actor. He became known in 1971 with the films Klute by Alan J. Pakula and The French Connection by William Friedkin. For the latter, he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He later appeared in films such as Jaws by Steven Spielberg (which is probably his best-known role); Marathon of Death, by John Schlesinger; Sorcerer, also by William Friedkin; and Bob Fosse's The Show Must Go On, which earned him a second Academy Award nomination in 1980, this time for Best Leading Actor.
