Knights of the Zodiac, also known as Saint Seiya (聖闘士星矢 Seinto Seiya) is a shōnen manga and anime series, created by Masami Kurumada, produced and realized by the Japanese animation studio Toei Animation.

The story was initially published from January 1986 to April 15, 1991 in manga format in Shonen Jump magazine, from the Shueisha publisher. Subsequently, the adaptation was made into an anime series of 114 episodes, OVAs with a total of 31 episodes, 5 films and several continuations and spin-offs of the original manga, remaining in force to this day.

Synopsis[]

The plot and plot of the series focus on the story of a group of young warriors called Knights ("Saints" in the original version), who fight to protect the Greek goddess Athena from the forces of evil.

To fight, the Knights only use their inner energy (called Cosmos), their fists and armor that serve as protection and are also inspired by constellations, creatures and beings from Greek mythology.

Dubbing[]

The series was translated in Mexico with the name Los Caballeros del Zodiaco (same name by which the series is known in Spain), a translation coming from the name by which the franchise is known in Europe and the United States (the latter with the first dubbing in English by DiC Entertainment in 2003), and the dubbing was carried out by the dubbing studio Producciones Salgado and directed by the actor Jesús Barrero (voice of Seiya).

Sanctuary Saga[]

Episodes 1 - 26[]

The series aired for the first time in November 1992 on Channel 13 of Imevisión (currently TV Azteca).

These episodes had a translation from the French scripts and were dubbed by approximately 16 actors.

Episodes 27 - 73[]

As of chapter 27, the product officially belonged to Cloverway. From these episodes onwards, French scripts stopped being used and it is possible that they began to work with "Engrish" scripts, scripts literally translated into the English language from Japan, for which there was a poor translation that remained throughout the series leaving many inconsistencies.

Because the dubbing was resumed some time later, several actors who previously participated were no longer called back, only retaining the voices of the Bronze Knights and some actors who already worked in the previous installment such as Daniel Abundis, Alfonso Ramírez, Yamil Atala, among others, also to Raúl de la Fuente for the narration and for the presentation of the chapters of the series to Arturo Casanova.

Among the actors who did not participate in this installment are: Víctor Covarrubias, nephew of the dubbing director, whose characters, Aiolos of Sagittarius and Shō of the Celestial Armor, were taken by Armando Larumbe and Daniel Abundis respectively; Cristina Camargo as Saori Kido / Athena, replaced by María Fernanda Morales, who previously played Miho and Akira, however, she does not take up the latter two, being replaced in the character of Miho by Ruth Toscano in episode 36 and by Maru Guerrero in episode 40 and in the character of Akira who reappears in episode 40 by Gustavo Toquero; Carla Padrón as Shaina de Ofiuco, replaced by Maru Guerrero, who also played various secondary female characters and continues to dub Marin de Águila, however, The latter was dubbed by other actresses in some episodes in which the character appears together with Shaina.

For the Golden Knights of Athena, there was some voice conservation in some cases such as Yamil Atala as Aiolia de Leo, Daniel Abundis as Cancer Death Mask and Alfonso Ramírez as Aphrodite of Pisces, for the rest it was given to Benjamín Rivera to Camus of Aquarius and Milo of Scorpion, the latter first changing his voice Because Milo appeared in many scenes where he is in each chapter, this case was different in Alfonso Ramírez who made Aldebarán of Taurus, he also made Aphrodite of Pisces; for the voice of Shaka de Virgo, it was thought that Fernando Manzano would play the character, which only happened in two chapters since in the end Mario Raúl López was chosen, later he was gave to Saúl Alvar in a chapter; for Shura it was assigned to Rafael Rivera who previously played Shiva as Peacock in a chapter; for Saga de Géminis, the character was dubbed by Javier Rivero, but in three chapters Carlos del Campo played the character when he became bad and the ghost in the armor was dubbed by Javier Rivero himself.

Asgard Saga[]

For the Asgard saga, Sylvia Garcel joins the cast as Hilda de Polaris, Gisela Casillas as Flare, Jorge Roig Jr. as Bud de Alcor Zeta and Adrian Fogarty as Sorrento de Sirena. For unknown reasons, Sylvia Garcel stops dubbing Hilda de Polaris, so she was replaced by Gisela Casillas in chapter 78 and, from chapter 79, by Dulce María Romay, who had already played various female characters. . In the case of the Golden Knights, Milo de Escorpión was given to Saúl Alvar from this saga. It is worth highlighting the return of Víctor Covarrubias, who was notoriously absent in the previous saga since chapter 27.

Poseidon Saga[]

For the last saga, Poseidon, María Fernanda Morales stops dubbing Saori Kido / Athena and is replaced by Haydeé Unda, who in the previous saga played Shaina of Ophiuchus in some chapters. For this saga, the actors Armando Coria join the cast as Old Master of the Five Mountains / Dohko de Libra, replacing Eduardo Borja, and several characters , among them soldiers of Poseidon; and Mario Castañeda as Kanon of Sea Dragon.
